Welcome to our blog!
We have spent many months planning this horseback ride from Washington to Mexico. Richard has always had a dream of packing horses across the United States so after his retirement we left our home in Alaska and began the trip of our lifetime. This ride will be dedicated to several children with a great need of assistance. We hope to help them as much as possible along our journey. Anyone interested in helping too, please donate to the Shriners Childrens Hospitals. A few dollars could make a world of difference.
Currently riding are Richard and his son, Grady, as well as his wife, Sedona, and her 7 year old daughter, Cheyenne. We are now expecting Mike Fields and his son next week.
We had trouble finding good horses for the ride but did eventually stumble across seven horses in Yakima and Ellensburg that we thought might work out. They are Big Red, Teke, Wednesday, Brownie, Legs, Lucy, and Trace. Red is a huge four year old appy gelding that Richard is riding and working with. Teke is currently being used as a pack horse but she is for sale at $700 because she is too small for the work load we have. She is also being picked on by the other horses so she either needs to be sold or traded. Teke is well broke and will do anything that is asked of her. Wednesday is a pack horse right now but has had a few ride on her and may be a riding horse soon. Brownie is being ridden by little Cheyenne and her dog Pinka. Legs (named so because she has looong legs) is a TWH ridden by Grady. Lucy is being ridden by Sedona. Finally we have Trace, who all the horses love because he carries the feed.
